The Goop Troop, our own team

Every other team on this site belongs to the studio that sculpted it. This one is ours. We wrote the brief, argued about the poses for longer than we should have, and had Ugni cut the sculpts — then printed the first squad out of the same Goop as everything else we ship.

It is the team we wanted to field ourselves, so it is the team we made.

The Goop Troop,

Nineteen players, one box

The positionals

Every position on an orc roster, and the box fills all six of them — five of the six right up to the limit the rules allow. Open one to meet the sculpts that play it, or pick a model straight off the team card.

The positionals

  • LinemanLine orcs 8 8 in the box Roster limit 0–16

    Lineman

    The bulk of the team

Hunched forward with his shoulders up around his ears and a grin that suggests he already knows where the ball went. The line is the part of the team you paint the most of, so it is the part we had cut with the most variation — you are not painting the same orc over and over.

Most of what is worth painting faces the front, so a line orc can go on the base first and be finished there. Start here if you have never painted an orc.

  • GoblinGreasy goblins 4 4 in the box Roster limit 0–4

    Goblin

Slot filled Four sculpts, four poses

Four goblins, and only one of them is still on his feet — blade up over one shoulder, something shorter in the other hand, and nothing about him that says he is allowed either. One of the other three has already been thrown and has landed the way thrown goblins land.

Small enough to paint in an evening, mean enough to be worth it.

  • ThrowerSlingers 2 2 in the box Roster limit 0–2

    Thrower

    Slot filled

One arm cocked back, the other flung out in front, and a boot already off the ground — he has decided where the ball is going and he is wrong.

Both slingers are bare from the waist up, which is more skin than anything else in the box, and makes them the best place in the squad to try a flesh recipe you are not sure about.

  • BlitzerChargers 2 2 in the box Roster limit 0–2

    Blitzer

    Slot filled Two different sculpts

Head down, weight already through the front foot and a blade up over the shoulder on its way somewhere. Both chargers are caught mid-stride rather than standing, which is why they read from across the table and why they are the two you want at the front of the box.

Neither is a comfortable first model — there is a lot hanging out over the rim of the base on both — but they are the two that repay a careful edge highlight.

  • BlockerBig boys 2 2 in the box Roster limit 0–2

    Blocker

    Slot filled Start here

Feet planted wide, gauntlets up and the whole model braced against something that has not hit him yet. Nothing on him hangs out over the rim of the base, which makes him the one to hand a nervous painter first.

The other big boy has both arms straight out to the sides with gauntlets roughly the size of his head, and no intention whatsoever of letting anyone past. The shirt front on both is a clean flat panel — freehand a number on it before you touch anything else.

  • TrollThe Goop troll 1 1 in the box Roster limit 0–1

    Troll

    Slot filled Big guy

Two heads taller than anybody else on the pitch and roughly as wide as the goal. Most of him is one enormous smooth surface, which makes him the best model in the box to practise a wet blend on and the worst one to rush.

That raised hand is the highest point on the whole team photo. Get your primer up under it before anything else, or you never will.

  • CoachOff the pitch 1 1 in the box

    Coach

    Not a positional

Flat cap, long coat, and the only model in the box who never has to take a hit. He does not go on the pitch and he does not take a roster slot — he stands on the touchline being disappointed in nineteen orcs.

He has no photograph of his own. He is in the team card, ringed while you are reading this.
